Biological Studies

I've been inspired by SEM

(Scanning Electron Microscopy) images produced by molecular science departments from universities around the world..

There have been some recent break-throughs in our ability to look deeper into molecular structures with better image quality using SRM (Super-Resolution Microscopy) technology.

The paintings on the left are my own interpretation of these images of cells, islets, neurons and other parts of our molecular makeup. They are all fairly large highly textured pieces using acrylics on canvas.  Thanks for viewing.

It's always interesting to see where

my paintings end up and how they work in the their new environment.  Even though I didn't consciously intend for this series to be considered as abstract expressionism, the work nevertheless takes on that identity for many collectors as each piece on its own seems to abandon it's intended biological identity to redefine itself as colorful non-representational

compositions.  I like that.
